T Factor
Over seven weeks of the summer The T Factor talent competition took place in our church and our entertainers were hugely encouraged by the large audiences that turned out. Along with those who were brave enough to enter the talent show, we also had several people who entertained while the judges were shut away in the vestry deciding which two acts each night should perform again for the final judging by the audience.
Entertainers came from our own Church, our own town, the surrounding area but also from far and wide as holiday makers joined in having seen the event advertised. Here are just a few photographs from the event which was the brain child of Irene McDonald. She hoped that it would be an act of outreach to people who did not normally come to our, or any, church and she was not disappointed.
Blythswood Care ‘Buckets of Love’ Appeal
On behalf of Blythswood Care, we would like to thank everyone who so generously filled buckets for the ‘Buckets of Love’ appeal. We were able to send off a good number of filled buckets on 12th August with the ‘Round the South’ collection lorry, and these will be stored by Blythswood, ready for sending anywhere in the world as immediate aid in an emergency. Your kindness and willingness in giving are greatly appreciated.
Home Fellowshipping
Many of our members have come to realise the benefit of mid-week Christian fellowshipping. Our Home Fellowship Groups are in their tenth year now and offer us Christian fellowship and the opportunity to share and grow in our faith with folk of like Christian faith and mindedness. Please contact us for more details.
Thinking Forward to Christmas
CROSSREACH, the Social Care Council of the Church of Scotland, is the second largest provider of social services in Scotland and is at the forefront in the care of the elderly, the addicted and those with learning difficulties.
Crossreach also provides counselling services nationally, has pioneered work in the post-natal depression field recently through its Bluebell Appeal, and runs two schools for boys, Ballikinrain and Geilsland. The bulk of Crossreach’s income comes from local authorities which “buy into” its care provision. A substantial income is derived from the generous provision of church members and friends through legacies. It also derives income annually through sales of Christmas cards and gifts and calendars.
Our congregational representative for Crossreach, Patricia Bain, will be on hand in the main vestibule of the Church on Sunday mornings from 10.30 a.m. to take orders from the 2008 Crossreach Christmas Catalogue and you are encouraged to place you orders and thus support this valuable work of our Church.
Any Unused Foreign Currency?
Members and friends of the Parish Church with foreign currency left over from their holidays are invited to place this into the box in the main vestibule on Sundays or hand it into our Treasurer, Andy Bain. Any such monies with be “cash converted” and applied to the Fabric Fund.
